Top tips to avoid dating scams

1. Never put on a profile that you are fun, up for anything and easily pleased all in one sentence. Without stating the obvious, this could indicate that you're vulnerable and open to any situation.

2. Take your time getting to know a person, introduce them to friends/family and always follow your gut feeling.  Do you know their home address? Have you been there? Have you seen I.D. for them?

3. Never send money or pay for anything like airline tickets for someone you meet online, would you do this on meeting someone in a pub?  Then why should it be different?

4. Although dating sites are there for you to meet people and you have to give information about yourself, try to avoid divulging too much about your life. Don’t mention things like what your house is like, what type of car you drive, how financially secure you are – ArrangeMeADate isn’t about finding someone with a large bank balance !

5. All social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter, are open to the same problems and scams. ArrangeMeADate are here to help but it is up to each individual to have commonsense and keep their wits about them.

6. If in doubt, ask someone. We are available for advice and help.

7. If the person you are chatting to remains vague about their life all of the time and only interested in asking the questions, this is definitely a warning sign.

8. If a person’s profile seems too good to be true then maybe it is.

9. Have you contacted your date at work? Genuine work email addresses are harder to set up and people can easily be traced through their job.  Any form of fraud for most companies would be treated as a disciplinary so knowing all about a person’s job would be a good thing. If they are not happy (after a little while of course) to give you work details then you have to ask the question why.

10. Always meet a new date is somewhere you are familiar with.  Make sure your friends and family know who you are meeting and have a contact number for you.
