Online dating guru’s Lexi Proud and Keely Barrett are the founders of top dating website ArrangeMeADate.com. Here they share a few quirky stories of what can go wrong on your first date and how you can learn from your dating disasters!

Why is it that people can always remember their bad dates more often that their good ones? Ask a friend or a colleague and they can always think of a disastrous date.

I will never forget the time a friend called me after a disastrous date. Not only had she not thought about her outfit very well but she rushed to the date after work and turned up with sweat patches all over her blouse. Seeing her error she popped to the loo before meeting her date to try and dry herself under the hand drier, only to discover that the drier wasn’t working! Frustrated she took off her blouse to see if she could cool down for a few minutes and as she wafted it through the air, it caught on an open toilet door and she heard a loud ripping sound! There was nothing she could do except go and meet her date flustered, sweaty, with a arm kept to one side to try and cover the rip! Needless to say the rest of the night was awkward to say the least!

Moral – Always prepare your outfit for your date and give yourself enough time, first impressions really do last!

Trying to meet someone when out drunk is never a great thing to do. How many guys really live up to your expectations? Sally met Pete in a bar on a night out. They swapped numbers and arranged to meet up three days later. Sally happens to be about 6ft 1 and was wearing heels the night she met Pete but it was cool because she remembered thinking that he was ‘About her height’ if she had her flats on. Sally was stood outside the bar waiting when a guy Pete approached her – She had to look twice not only was he not her height but he didn’t even come up to her chest! Being a polite girl Sally continued on with the date and it later came out that Pete had been on a step in the bar when they had been chatting. As much as Pete was a nice guy he just wasn’t the guy for her – she loves her heels too much!

Moral – Don’t swap telephone numbers with someone if you have had a lot to drink, especially if you don’t really remember much about them.

Simon turned up to meet his date Angie in the plush bar of a 5 star hotel. It was set to be a good night. They ordered champagne and due to nerves he drank a little too much, too quickly. Angie went off to the loo and when she came back to the table, Simon had not only polished off the champagne but he had also latched himself onto a group of girls on the table next to where they were sat. Some 15 minutes later he was still chatting to the girls, so Angie got up and walked out. The next day she received a phone call from Simon apologising profusely – he actually confessed that he had been so nervous that he had drunk so much he had totally forgotten that she was there!!!

Moral – Never have too much to drink on a date, especially a first date. You may do something that you may regret!!
